Keeping the Conversation going ....

We had to cancel our October meeting, where has the year gone, everyone is so busy and it seems we all are getting pulled in many directions.
However, at our November meeting we set about working on our latest addition. We have finally developed the design for the information pamphlet.
All the participants agreeing that it is very colourful and can be adapted to all teaching areas.
Already we have some great ideas being discussed.
As part of the Community Services Faculty, members are also involved with other projects. One of these projects is NAVAL, Network of Assessment Validation Assessor Leaders.
Our NAVAL team will be attending the TAFE NSW Quality AWARDS in November 2007. The team is hoping to receive a Quality Award for their work in consistency in assessment.
Update

It's been a while since our last entry, not to say that we have not been meeting, rather that we have been very busy.
We have had two new members join the group, Barbara and Yvone.
We have taken some pictures to use as digital story. this digital story will help with relaying the Recognition process visualy. We hope to have it finished byt he end of the year, and in production for piloting early 07.

No news from previous meeting. Group welcomed Melinda Vaughan-Gibson ( Beauty Therapy, Liverpool) to the group.
Unveiling of new Logo:
Thanks to Robyn and her associate for the development of the new Learn@Work logo. ( as evident above). All members have received a JPG copy of the Logo and it also now appears on the group Blog. http://learnatwork.blogspot.com/ John requested that all members vist and sign up the team blog.The logo was also displayed on the laptop.
Strategy 2: Develop process and resources that assist to respond to industry training needs
Update on Reframing the Future Project: Children’s Services Assessor Network. John gave an overview of the further direction that this project is taking, at the next meeting the group will be specifically looking at the LEG ( Learner Evidence Guide) in relation to Children’s Services Cert III. John explained that Dianne Swan from Children’s Services Bankstown will be attending the next Reframing meeting as a guest speaker. She will present her findings related to RPL processes recently encountered with her involvement with BEVET and Cert III Children’s Services. All team members invited to attend the meeting, August 17th 11:30am 1:30pm, Bankstown Campus room EG14.

Update on Community Services Emerging Priorities Project http://communityservices-online.blogspot.com/ Team members were directed to visit this site and inspect the new postings and see the excellent work that Jo Fuller has been developing, especially in relation to the LEG.
Update on the Bobby Goldsmith Project. John updated the group on recent interacts with BGF. Group then entered discussion about the benefits of this project to the Faculty and the possibility of using BGF as a case model down the track.
LEG Learner Evidence Guide. Team members discussed recent interactions with the LEG and RPL applicants. It was clearly identified that the LEG was of huge benefit to the applicant and teacher dealing with the situation. It was also identified that that blank templates from the LEG would be of benefit to teachers in RPL situations.
Some team members identified that did not have a CD copy of the LEG. A CD would offer greater accessibility rather than the initial Hard Copy presently held.
ACTION: John to email team members blank templates for further use.
ACTION: John to Issue copies of the LEG CD.
Discussion related to strategy 3. Develop marketing strategies.
The group entered discussion about the initial process of getting information out to interested participants. This conversation resulted in the following items being identified as possible requirements.

Discipline specific flyer
Business card
Gather and discuss promotional examples and discipline photo’s.
The team discussed some examples that were displayed. Team decided that a discipline specific flyer was a good idea, and that each section should develop one.

Group also indicated that a Digital story would be of benefit to the introduction of the LEG. This digital story could replace the present flowchart, and as such offer a more user friendly approach.
ACTION: John, Caterina, Melinda to set a date to take digital photo’s. John to develop the beginnings of the story for presentation at the next meeting.
Extend direction further for team, high light specific tasks for next meeting.

Attendance:

Welcome and Introductions:
1. Housekeeping and general updates :
· Jo Fuller gave a quick overview of current projects.
· Baptist Community Services: 20 participants currently enrolled in Cert III Home and Community Care ( Aged care focus).
· Jo and Robyn to host a Podcast information session next week.
· P.C.Y.C.C. 12 month program with volunteers in NSW, project targeted at year 11 & 12 students, in Cert III Community Recreation. Project identified as consisting of many challenges resulting in 10 participants being identified to continue. Project commencing within 3 weeks.
· Bvet funding: Cert IV Welfare. Presently targeting 20 participants in Community Services organisations who will undertake 8 units.
· Scalabrini Aged Care: Cert III aged Care project has been running for the last 12 months, participants graduating next month. 2nd project for War Veterans Cert III commencing and Yass commencing Cert III in Aged Care.
· Campbelltown Children’s Services: S.S.T.P funding available for the Camden Family day Care Scheme. Undertaking part completion of Cert III in Children’s Services. Currently initiating RPL for participants, and undertaking workshops of an evening.
· Y.M.C.A. Cert IV OOSH Care. Currently running in the Cumberland, McCarthur area, project consisting of part RPL and part delivery. Possibility of access to materials flexibly through the TAFE jetty.
· Y.W.C.A. Presently targeting the Rosemeadow area. Possibility of opening a Drop-in-café, offering access to online course training. Looking to develop further pathways to continue course enrolment with TAFE.
· B.G.F. Continuance of current CERT IV in Community Services pending, new materials, ‘In the House’ released and participants viewed documents.
Outcomes:
· Jo Fuller to send a copy of the ‘In the house” resource to attendees for viewing.
· Deb to seek cost of purchasing Ring binders, covers and backing sheets for Robyn’s binding machine, for use as a resource to other sections needing items bound.
2. Assessor Teacher Evidence Guide, presentation by Jo Fuller
3. Learner Evidence Guide
Jo Fuller gave a quick overview of the current Teacher Assessor & Learner Evidence Guides, hard copy drafts being viewed by all at meeting. Discussion followed in regards to deciding what formate would be most appropriate.
Outcomes:
· All present agreed that a CD would be beneficial, and required a instruction sheet to be developed.
· The smaller booklet was also preferred by attendees as the choice for distribution to applicants.
· The development of an online version to be made available to applicants.
· A discipline specific flyer/pamphlet to be developed as a method of marketing.
4. Who to target:
Outcomes:
· Jo fuller to work with Donna Mendoza in the non-teaching week to look at merging into Sport and Recreation area.
· All attending agreed that at this time there were adequate projects underway, and for the time being did not require further promotions.
5. Marketing ideas, what needs to be sent with the Learner Evidence Guide CD, letter, flyer, promotional ideas.
Discussed in points 2 & 3.
6. Logo, marketing ideas, business cards
Robyn displayed a possible Learn@Work logo. All attending approved the logo with minor changes, removal of the words ‘get em’ and changing the colours to purple and green.
Outcomes:
· Robyn to continue working with graphic design team to change colours and remove wording.
· Once logo approved, team to further develop business cards and letterhead stationary, CD etc.
7. Future meeting dates:
Discussion of further dates undertaken, resulting in the continuance of Thursday meetings.

Participants took great interest in the development of this project, especially the Learner Evidence Guide for Cert IV Community Services, developed by Jo Fuller. All were welcomed to the meeting and introductions given.
John gave a brief overview of the purpose of Learn@Work and explained his role as facilitator.
Those present viewed the current Learner Evidence Guide on CD, and general questions were raised and answered. All present agreed that the CD was a vital and important aspect of the initial stages of promotion. After viewing, all present agreed that such a CD should be created across all disciplines. All attendees received a CD of the Learner Evidence Guide to further investigate.
Robyn Bosley gave a brief verbal overview of her attendance at the Hunter Institute meeting, Kurri Kurri Community Services get together Tuesday 11 April – Wednesday 12 April 2006.
John gave a brief overview of his interactions with the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation Housing Support Worker Training Project. Further information. Talking TAFE
Discussion was entered in relation to the present name, Learn@Work. All present agreed that the name remain as it encapsulates the goals of the project, and current discipline areas, Children’s Services, Aged Care, Welfare and Lifestyle & Leisure.
Attention was drawn to the Learn@Work Draft Strategic Plan, created at the initial meeting held March 23rd 2006.
3. Develop marketing Strategies.
All present discussed possibilities for initial targeting. Areas worth further consideration and investigation include,

Publicity Flyer
Robyn Bosley identified she would consult a Graphic Design Colleague in relation to a possible logo for the project.
All present agreed that the final marketing items selected should visually identify the project goals and capture individuals from a variety of training sectors. Further discussion as to how to develop this is to be placed on the agenda for the next meeting.

To develop strategies to meet the needs of industry
Getting started!
Had our first meeting and we are off to a great start!
We had out introductions and then we developed our action plan for the next 6 months.
